PUBLIC CHANNELS
The DFM Chat Network is running on our own servers and although publicly accessible
it is a private network. The environment we provide is friendly, accepting, enjoyable
and that is the way we keep it. We are not going to publish a not-to-do list, if one has
any common sense there shouldn't arise any problem. DFM operators will remove/ban on
the spot any offender to this unwritten list with or without notice. For all you others our
operators will do whatever in their power to provide assistance with anything that will
enhance your DFM experience, just get on the channel and ask. Have some patience if
there is no immediate response, likely everyone is busy elsewhere then, but you will be noted!

CONNECTING MANUALLY: 1. Start up an IRC CLIENT 2. Type: /server 82.161.88.51 3. Wait until server connection is made 4. Type: /join #DFM AUTOMATED SETTINGS: 1. Start up the IRC CLIENT 2. Add server: 82.161.88.51 3. Set port to: 6667 4. Add channel: #DFM |
A good simple trick, if you are using mIRC, is to copy the startup
icon and rename it to 'DFM Chat'. Now right-click it and open
the Properties. On the Target line you can add the following:
| to connect to the server : | -s82.161.88.51:6667 |
| to join the channel: | -j#DFM |
Example: "C:\Program Files\Mirc\mirc.exe" -s82.161.88.51 -j#DFM
Click OK. Now you have a direct link to the DFM Chat Network.
This trick might also work with other IRC clients. See its
documentation and look for commandline options.
In case the main server is offline you can connect to
our secondairy server, just follow the above steps
and replace the IP number with: 82.161.88.51

WEBCHAT INFO: - The webchat starts with a small popup login window, if you don't get the popup check if your browser (like firefox) or other security program doesn't block them for DFM. In the settings you can add us to an exception list (in MSIE add us to Trusted Sites). - If you get to the bigger chat window but it stays gray your browser doesn't support Java, most browsers do so first look at the browser settings if Java is enabled. Otherwise a security program might be preventing Java to start also here you could add us to an exception list and/or in MSIE add us to Trusted Sites. - It is possible that a company called SUN will offer you to download Java, that is okay they are the developpers of Java. But.. do NOT install the Java Developpers pack (it's like a 130 Mb package!), you only need the browser plugin (only a small package)! - When everything goes well you will see the connection being build up in the chatwindow, this can go fast but also take a while (never longer then 90 seconds) depending on settings in your firewall |

Most common commands:
| /server address:port | Connects you to that server and port |
| /join #channel | Join #channel (don't forget the #) |
| /part #channel | Leave #channel (keep server connection) |
| /quit (msg) | Disconnect from server (with optional message) |
| /nick name | Change your (nick-)name |
| /whois nick | Get more info about 'nick' |
| /msg nick text | Sends 'text' as private message to 'nick' |
| /query nick | Go into private chat with 'nick' |
| /notice nick text | Sends textline privately to 'nick' (with priority flag) |
| /ignore nick | Ignores all messages/chat from 'nick' |
| /clear | Clear the chat message screen |

NB! Commands are always preceeded with a: / (forward slash)
